The Sharks Board headquarters are situated on the ridge overlooking Umhlanga. It is one of the foremost facilities world-wide for research into the habits of this magnificent, misunderstood, marine creature. Tours of this facility aim to educate the public about sharks and their conservation.

Granny’s Pool is a sheltered bathing area formed by two natural rock outcrops. Today it is used to launch ski boats off Umhlanga and is also a safe swimming area for the young and old. Marine life surrounding this pool is fairly prolific.

The Hawaan Forest is a unique indigenous woodland area that has remained in its natural state for centuries. It is characterised by many species of tropical trees and supports a number of animals and birds.

Gateway, billed as the “Theatre of Shopping” houses a vast array of shops, cinemas and restaurants. Plus lots of entertainment for the young at heart.  The la Lucia Mall is also close to Umhlanga and very popular for shopping.
