Umhlanga is renowned for its warm and sunny climate, its magnificent swimming beaches and excellent sports facilities. It is a premier tourist destination that attracts millions of visitors a year.

Umhlanga has varied accommodation options, luxury hotels, bed and breakfasts and self-catering apartments. A wide variety of restaurants and shops are available, while the beach offers safe swimming and snorkeling in the clear warm water.

Holiday-makers can enjoy lazing on the beautiful wide beaches, building sand castles, walking over the rocks at low tide examining the marine life or with a little more effort walk the promenade which stretches from Durban View Park in the south to Breakers Resort in the north - a favourite for all.

For the young at heart, the surfing is excellent. The locals all body surf, knee board, body board, and of course surf. For the holiday maker there is expert tuition and equipment to hire. One can also buy the equipment from the surf shops in the village.

Wind surfing has become popular on our beaches and there is good fishing, both from the shore or from a ski boat. Ski boats are able to launch from the beach through Granny's Pool and snorkeling in this area and the surrounding rock pools at low tide is very good.

The Sharks Board headquarters are situated on the ridge overlooking Umhlanga. It is one of the foremost facilities world-wide for research into the habits of this magnificent, misunderstood, marine creature. Tours of this facility aim to educate the public about sharks and their conservation.

Granny's Pool is a sheltered bathing area formed by two natural rock outcrops. Today it is used to launch ski boats off Umhlanga and is also a safe swimming area for the young and old. Marine life surrounding this pool is fairly prolific.

The Hawaan Forest is a unique indigenous woodland area that has remained in its natural state for centuries. It is characterised by many species of tropical trees and supports a number of animals and birds.

Gateway, billed as the "Theatre of Shopping" houses a vast array of shops, cinemas and restaurants PLUS a huge standing wave known as D-Rex, a mega-skate park, the highest climbing wall imaginable, a go-cart track, putt-putt course and a challenging 4X4 vehicle track. A must see!

uShaka Marine World is a themed marine park in Durban, offering a world of ocean activities, rides, oceanarium, amusement park, displays, shopping, beach activities and lots more.
